[LINCOLN FUNERAL]. 6 CDVs of Lincoln memorial services and buildings draped in mourning, incl. the Congressional Committee posed in front of Lincoln's Springfield home on the day of his funeral.
6 CDVs on cardstock mounts, including the following scenes:
CDV featuring a period copy image of a photograph and mount showing the Congressional Committee posed in front Lincoln's home on the day of his funeral, Springfield, Illinois, 3 May 1865. Philadelphia: Broadbent & Co., ca 1865. The mount appears to include the names of members of the Committee posing for the image. The negative was almost certainly taken by Samuel M. Fassett of Chicago who produced a number of images of the Chicago and Springfield Funeral. The Committee, which accompanied Lincoln's body from Washington on its multi-city tour, stands in front of the dead president's crepe draped home. Images of the Springfield funeral are uncommon, and this one especially so. We could find but a single institutional holding of the original photograph at the Wisconsin Historical Society.
[With:] CDV of the Springfield Court House draped in mourning. Uncredited. -- CDV believed to show a large crowd gathered together for a Lincoln mourning service. Ravenna, OH: Stein's Photographic Gallery, ca 1865. -- Treasury Building, Now National Bank of Virginia. Pennsylvania: Levy & Cohen, 1865. From Levy & Cohen's series, "Views of the Rebel Capital and its Environment." An image of the Treasury Building in Richmond with columns that appear to be draped in mourning. The description printed on verso describes the building as the "only structure spared by the flames which spread destruction through the beautiful city of Richmond, on memorable 3d of April, 1865." Verso with 2-cent US Internal Revenue stamp. -- 2 CDVs of unidentified structures draped in mourning, including a public building and what appears to be a large residence. Uncredited.
Together, 6 CDVs.
